Foster Loft- Before

I am working with Wayside Waifs to become a foster parent to their canines. I decided to do this since I haven't been able to chose a forever dog just yet. I have a dog friendly home open and I want to share it with a dog. That has lead me to the path of fostering dogs.

I chose Wayside for a number of reasons. Security reasons being the strongest as I want to protect myself and safety as much as possible. Knowing there would be a home inspection and a request for personal information, I couldn't allow myself to foster with any unknown shelters. I was also fearful that an unknown shelter may never successfully adopt the dog and I might by chance get stuck with the dog. I also found it very easy to apply online, which makes the process much easier and quicker.

I have had my home inspection just this morning. I was proactive to make sure a woman was the inspector and she was great. I showed her the doggy run area and she was very impressed. She asked me what I would do if I got a puppy and I answered that I could access a kennel from moms house or simply shut the puppy in the bathroom. That was very acceptable for her. She made sure that the dog would be warm and safe, which would be important should a dog need to recover from a surgery or something else traumatic. She loved that I live in a sociable area, so if the dog needs socialization, I would be a great candidate.

Wayside is working on new kennels, so they need all of their dogs out of the facility for two weeks. I go to the shelter on the 30th and I get to pick which dog I bring home. Maybe a beagle to get it out of my system.

I am over the top excited about sharing some time with a dog. I can't wait to go for runs or walks again. I am shopping for a new dog bed for my new visitor.

Look for new posts once I get the foster dog.
