Repairs Cost Money!!!

The DCID has been doing a fantastic job refreshing the paint on the fire hydrants around town, but look what happened to the one at 7th and Wyandotte.  It has been in this condition for nearly a month.  I sincerely hope that the water was shut off somewhere down the line because there a pipe still fully connected.  I want this fixed, but with all the financing cuts to services, I'm not hopeful.  I mean, we do have a hydrant on the other side of the building.

The fact that this crack at 7th and Central hasn't been fixed since the water main break in 2009 leads me to believe the hydrant won't be fixed any time soon.  This crack lets water into the basement of our building. They don't care about that either.  We've contacted the city, applied for help when Funky set up the funds accepting proposals from residents, finally we asked Jolie Justus (who was a personal friend of some other residents).  Nothing, not even the wind of a fart has come our way from our communications.

Neither of these damages will hurt anything too badly in the long run.  What's the worst that happens?  Our foundation gets damaged, we grow mold and have to replace much of the common areas?   There's a fire at my building on the East side and they cannot get the water to that side?  What are the odds? (Knock on wood.)  The minimum issues...someone trips on the sidewalk and a dog pees down the hole created from the hydrant.

I think what makes me most upset is that I'm jealous of the River Market (there's a future post on this issue).  They get all the pretty improvements and repairs.  We're only 2 blocks away.  Can't we get repaired too?  Pretty please repair us too!!!
